Matt Donohue, CFP®
Founder and Private Wealth Advisor
“I firmly believe that the best financial advice begins with a true partnership. One where clients feel comfortable being open about where they stand, where meaningful conversation leads to well-informed decisions, and where I can challenge them to make the most of every opportunity available to them.
Where possible, I prioritize education and understanding as a core part of every conversation. When you understand why a strategy is right for you, the mechanics behind it and the impact it can have, you're more confident in it and more committed to seeing it through.
My role is to help you and your family with all matters financial. That means more than selecting investments or running projections. It means understanding how every aspect of your financial life interacts: your income, your taxes, your investments, your estate, your protection, and developing a comprehensive strategy that accounts for all of it. It means proactively identifying areas of opportunity that might otherwise be overlooked.
And it means showing up. My clients have direct access to me and can expect thoughtful, timely responses to their questions and concerns. I take pride in being accessible and genuinely invested in helping, because how we work together matters as much as the work itself.”
The CFP® designation establishes a baseline that every client deserves
The financial services industry includes professionals with varying educational backgrounds, credentials, and regulatory obligations. Nearly anyone can offer advice, regardless of their education, training, or ethical obligations. The CFP® designation establishes an important baseline.
To earn the designation, candidates must complete thorough coursework spanning all areas of financial planning, pass a rigorous examination, and accumulate thousands of hours of professional experience. CFP® professionals are also bound by a strict code of ethics and required to act in a fiduciary capacity, meaning they must uphold both a duty of loyalty and a duty of care to the clients they serve.
That scope of training matters. A CFP® professional is equipped to engage meaningfully across investments, tax planning, retirement income, estate planning, risk management, and beyond, not just one or two areas in isolation.
The designation doesn't tell you everything about an advisor. But it does tell you they've done the work, committed to an ethical standard, and are qualified to engage with the full complexity of your financial life. That is the baseline every client deserves.
About me
Matt holds a degree in Economics from Middlebury College, where he began his career interning with Morgan Stanley's Narragansett Bay Group, gaining early exposure to alternative investment strategies and the fundamentals of comprehensive financial planning.
After graduating in 2020, Matt joined McAdam Financial, where he quickly built a strong foundation across all areas of the practice. He obtained his Series 65 and Life, Health, and Accident insurance licenses, developed his client base, and eventually took on a leadership role supporting the growth of younger advisors within the firm.
In 2024, he returned his full focus to his own clients and shortly after founded Donohue Wealth Management to deliver the kind of independent, personalized advice he had always believed clients deserved.
Matt earned his CFP® certification and remains committed to continuously expanding his knowledge, drawn to the field's complexity, constant evolution, and the opportunity to apply new thinking in ways that make a meaningful difference for the people he works with.
CFP® Designation, Series 65 (Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination), Life Health and Accident Insurance License.
Outside of work, Matt lives in South Boston with his fiancée, Allie, and their black Lab, Roo. He loves food, both cooking and eating it, and enjoys exploring what the city has to offer in that regard. He shares a love of travel with family and friends, with a particular appreciation for experiencing new places and the cultures that come with them. When the weather cooperates, you will find him outdoors, whether on the water, on a trail, or on the slopes. Matt also enjoys a good game, whether that’s a multi hour competitive board game or something more casual. On occasion he will pick up a good book, alternating between fiction and something business related.
Let’s see if we’re a fit.
